The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the Anambra South Senatorial by-election, Donald Amamgbo, has rejected the results of the poll conducted on Saturday, August 16, alleging sabotage and widespread irregularities.
Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Tuesday, Amamgbo described the exercise as “a carefully orchestrated charade designed to obfuscate, suffocate and decimate the people’s voice and choice, ultimately undermining the credibility of the process.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the election with 90,408 votes. Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 19,847 votes, while Amamgbo of the ADC trailed with 2,889 votes.
Amamgbo accused INEC of deliberately undermining his party by withholding accreditation tags for ADC’s ward and local government collation agents on the eve of the election, a move he said crippled the party’s ability to monitor and defend its votes.
“This is not about me,” he said. “It is about securing the future of our democracy and restoring faith in the ballot. Anambra South deserves better. Nigeria deserves better. And until we achieve that, I will not stop speaking.”
The ADC candidate maintained that the poll failed to reflect the will of the electorate and called for a comprehensive review of the process.
