Ibom Developers FZE Offers Free Medical Services to Residents in Andoni

Healthcare access remains a major hurdle for many remote communities, especially in riverine areas like Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, where scarce medical facilities and challenging terrain often hinder timely treatment.

To address this, Ibom Developers Free Zone Enterprise (FZE) launched a free medical outreach that has provided care to over 1,000 residents. The initiative has been widely commended by beneficiaries and community leaders as a crucial intervention, particularly given the significant gaps in the area’s healthcare infrastructure.

“This is the first time we are experiencing something like this in our community. We have very limited healthcare facilities, so we’re extremely thankful that they brought medical care right to our doorstep,” said Mrs. Goodnews John, a resident of Agbama village and one of the beneficiaries.

A community women leader and stakeholder, Mrs. Grace, applauded the company’s commitment to community welfare, noting that residents have long struggled with treatable ailments due to poor access to healthcare. “This outreach has brought much-needed relief to our homes. Ibom Developers FZE has made a meaningful difference,” she said.

The two-day medical program, held in Agbama community, focused on diagnosing and treating common but potentially serious illnesses such as malaria, typhoid fever, skin infections, hypertension, and diabetes-related complications. Residents received both medical consultations and free medication.

Lead physician for the outreach, Dr. UwamAbasi Celsius, described the initiative as timely and essential. “We treated many severe cases of hypertension that could have worsened without intervention. People here face enormous challenges in accessing even basic healthcare,” he said.

Representing the company, Ms. Grace Inyang, Community Development Programme Coordinator, explained that the outreach was designed to address the urgent health needs of the host community. “Between this community and the next town, there are virtually no medical facilities. We stepped in to meet the people’s needs. So far, over 1,000 individuals have received treatment, with more still being attended to,” she noted.

The medical outreach is part of Ibom Developers FZE’s broader Community Development Programme—a corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at improving the quality of life in its host communities.
