Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, after traveling to Washington, D.C., where authorities say she intended to “kidnap and assassinate” President Donald Trump.
A statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia on August 18 revealed that Jones had posted violent threats on Facebook and Instagram. In one message, she wrote: “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disembowelling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.” She also referenced an “arrest and removal ceremony” targeting Trump.
The U.S. Secret Service opened an investigation after linking the social media activity to Jones. During a recorded interview on August 15, she admitted to making the threats and allegedly said she would attempt to kill Trump “if given the opportunity,” citing anger over lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she later retracted her statements, claiming she no longer intended to harm him.
Jones now faces federal charges of threatening the President’s life and transmitting interstate threats to kidnap or injure, each carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized, “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and will be prosecuted swiftly and firmly.”
Court filings also noted Jones’s struggles with mental illness, which she had acknowledged in her online posts. As of now, no attorney has been publicly listed as representing her.
