Etinan’s Quiet Reconstruction:

by Editor April 17, 2026
written by Editor

Grassroots Governance in Step with ARISE and Renewed Hope

In a political environment where noise often replaces progress, Etinan is telling a different story. This is a story built not on declarations, but on visible steps that touch daily life. At the centre of this effort is the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Mr. Uko Umoh, whose approach reflects a simple belief that change must begin at the grassroots and be felt by the people.
Across the local government area, that belief is taking practical form. The construction of an ultra-modern bus terminus stands out, not just as a project, but as an attempt to bring order to a system that has long operated without structure. Many communities have transport networks that grow chaotically, leaving commuters, traders, and operators to navigate confusion daily. A proper terminus changes that reality. It becomes a focal point for movement and commerce, where activities are organised and opportunities cluster. When commissioned, the terminus will be accompanied by distributions of essential items to widows, students, youth, artisans, and persons with disabilities, demonstrating an administration that ensures development touches every life.
Transport, often overlooked in discussions about development, is one of the strongest indicators of how well a system functions. When movement is difficult, economic activity slows. When it is organised, everything else improves. By investing in transport, the Etinan administration is addressing a critical need. The introduction of twelve mini buses and three open-back tricycles reinforces this effort. These are not ceremonial additions; they improve access within and across communities. For many residents, especially those in outlying areas, mobility has long limited economic and social opportunities. With improved transport, farmers can reach markets more easily, traders can expand their reach, and residents can move with less strain.
Security and communication also feature prominently. Motorcycles have been purchased for the police and the Task and Rapid Response Committee (TRC), ensuring faster response times and improved safety. Safety is inseparable from development. Without it, economic and social progress falters. Residents in several villages report quicker police response times when disturbances occur, tangible evidence that governance is improving daily life.
Equally significant is the support provided to town criers across the 64 villages with bicycles and drums. In many rural communities, town criers remain the most reliable channel for information. Announcements about policies, programmes, and public matters often reach people through this system. By providing bicycles, their reach is extended; they cover more ground faster, and the drums reinforce their presence within communities. This ensures that government messages, policy updates, and public awareness campaigns reach every corner of the local government area in a timely manner.
It is not just about communication but empowerment. At the commissioning of the ultra-modern terminus, items and support will be distributed to widows struggling to sustain their families, students in need of school materials, youth seeking opportunities, artisans requiring tools, and persons with disabilities often left on the margins of development programmes. In one community, a widow expressed relief at the promise of support, saying, “Finally, we feel someone is thinking about us. The government is here for all of us.” Such moments underscore the human impact behind policy decisions.
The provision of empowerment kits for artisans addresses another pressing economic issue. Local economies depend heavily on skilled individuals in small-scale settings. Tailors, carpenters, mechanics, and other artisans form the backbone of daily activity, yet many struggle with inadequate tools, limiting productivity and income. By placing functional equipment directly in the hands of those who know how to use them, the administration strengthens the economic base, encourages self-reliance, and creates opportunities for others, including apprentices.
All these efforts reflect a consistent principle: development is most effective when it addresses interlinked areas of daily life, including transport, communication, livelihood, security, and inclusion. When these improve together, the impact is deeper and more lasting.
These local initiatives also align with the broader development vision of Umo Eno through the ARISE Agenda, which emphasizes rural development, economic inclusion, infrastructure, and support for small businesses. The Etinan projects translate these state-level priorities into tangible benefits at the grassroots level, demonstrating that policy can have practical effects when paired with focused implementation.
The connection is also evident at the national level with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on economic recovery, improved livelihoods, and systems that enable productivity. Local action in Etinan, whether through transport improvements, communication networks, empowerment programmes, or security enhancements, reflects the objectives of national policies in a form citizens can directly experience.
Etinan is redefining expectations of local governance. Too often, this level of authority is associated with unfulfilled promises and disconnected interventions. What is happening here suggests a different possibility: local leadership that understands its environment and acts decisively. Visible improvements, timely information, and targeted empowerment all contribute to building citizen confidence and engagement.
The chairman’s belief that Etinan can regain its place is not framed as a distant aspiration. It is being pursued through concrete actions: a transport system that works, information reaching villages on time, artisans who can work with proper tools, security services that respond effectively, and vulnerable groups receiving attention and support.
Perception matters in governance. When people see results, their expectations shift. Residents engage with governance and develop expectations based on outcomes rather than promises. In one village, young men preparing to start a cooperative for motorcycle repairs spoke of how access to tools and training will allow them to earn more and employ others, a ripple effect showing how thoughtful local interventions build momentum over time.
The Etinan administration also highlights the importance of understanding local realities. Development is most effective when it responds directly to conditions on the ground. Large-scale policies are important, but their success depends on how well they are adapted to local contexts.
There are still challenges. Infrastructure must be maintained. Vehicles and equipment require proper management. Empowerment efforts must translate into sustained productivity. Communication channels must remain credible. These factors will determine the lasting impact of current efforts.
Yet what stands out is the deliberate, cohesive direction of governance in Etinan. The link between local action, state priorities, and national objectives is visible. Etinan is not defined by announcements alone; it is shaped by steps that touch the daily realities of its people.
At the heart of this approach is a simple truth: development is measured not by grand speeches but by tangible change in citizens’ lives. In Etinan, that change is beginning to take shape quietly, steadily, inclusively, and with a focus on those who have often been left behind. The story unfolding here offers a blueprint for how grassroots governance can align with broader agendas and deliver real results .

Group Denies Involvement In Surulere Political Crisis, Insist On Neutrality

by Editor April 15, 2026
written by Editor

From Our Reporter

A group, Brothers Across Nigeria International (BAN) has denied its alleged involvement in a brewing political crisis between two House of Assembly aspirants in Surulere, Lagos State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday to our correspondent in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state by the publicity secretary of BAN Int’l, Bassey Etienam, the group insisted that it does not participate in partisan politics and not in support of any politician.

It condemned a viral publication allegedly sponsored to link the confraternity to political dispute in Surulere, describing the publication as ‘malicious’ and ‘false’.

The statement reads in parts, “The attention of the Brothers Across Nigeria (BAN) Interhas been drawn to a sponsored publication currently circulating, which falsely attempts to associate our noble Confraternity with the activities of a politician in Surulere and with an alleged political dispute between two aspirants for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“BAN Int’l has no affiliation, endorsement, or relationship with any politician mentioned in the report. We do not participate in partisan politics, nor do we sponsor, direct, or support the political ambitions of any individual.

“BAN Int’l is a law‑abiding and socially responsible organization founded on the principles of discipline, excellence, and service. We strongly condemn any attempt to drag our name into political violence, unrest, or rivalry.

“We completely dissociate BAN Int’l from any other Fraternity and from any narrative seeking to pitch BAN against any other group. BAN does not engage in street rivalries. Our members are guided by the Compass to uphold peace, order, and respect for the rule of law”.

The group said the publication was capable of causing tension which may snowball to community unrest and reprisal attacks, and urged members of the public to disregard it.

“The publication in question is false, mischievous, and clearly sponsored with the intent to instigate unrest in Surulere, a community that currently enjoys relative peace. Such incitement is capable of provoking reprisal attacks and endangering innocent lives. We reject it in its entirety.

“BAN Int’l stands firmly for peace in Surulere and across Nigeria. We call on the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, and other security agencies to investigate the origin of this dangerous publication and hold its sponsors accountable for attempting to breach public peace.

“On the tragic incident, we commiserate with the family and loved ones of the young man whose life was cut short by the assailants. The loss of any life is deeply painful and we extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. While we pray for the repose of his soul.

“We urge members of the public, the media, and all political actors to disregard the false linkage. BAN will not be used as a tool for political thuggery, misinformation, or inter‑group violence.
Our commitment remains rooted in humanitarian service, intellectual development, and nation‑building.

“We also call on platforms that have circulated this falsehood to desist from further spreading misinformation capable of inciting trouble”, the group said.

Akwa Ibom Health Sector Leaders Praise Gov. Umo Eno’s Reforms, Commend New Allowances and Hospital Improvements

by Editor October 20, 2025
written by Editor

The Coalition of All Health Sector Leaders (CAHSEL) in Akwa Ibom State has commended Governor Umo Bassey Eno, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to transforming the state’s health sector through far-reaching reforms and welfare packages for healthcare professionals.

Speaking during a press conference in Uyo on Monday 20 October, 2025, the coalition expressed deep gratitude to the governor for what they described as a “revolutionary repositioning” of the healthcare system.

In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Aniekan Imo Peter, Pharm. Abasiama Uwatt, Apostle Ekerete Bassey Bassey, and Dr. Ithiel Essien, they noted that the healthcare is aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and service delivery across all tiers of healthcare in the state.

They applauded the governor’s recent approval of new allowances for healthcare workers in the state, describing it as a morale-boosting incentive that will improve staff retention, curb the “Japa syndrome,” and enhance productivity.

The coalition noted that the new incentives reflect Governor Eno’s compassion and determination to improve the welfare of healthcare professionals, thereby strengthening the entire healthcare delivery system.

“This monumental decision will go a long way in improving the quality of healthcare services in Akwa Ibom and enhancing the well-being of its citizens. By prioritizing the needs of healthcare practitioners, the governor has shown that he values their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in serving humanity despite numerous challenges,” they noted.

The group further observed that Nigeria currently has one of the highest patient-to-health-worker ratios globally, making the new welfare package a significant step toward addressing workforce shortages and reducing brain drain in the state.

While pledging total support for Governor Eno’s administration and its health-focused components of the ARISE Agenda, they reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to ensure attitudinal change, professional excellence, and improved service delivery among healthcare personnel.

“We will work assiduously with the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, and all stakeholders to improve staff commitment and ensure that empathy, resilience, and dedication define the conduct of our members,” the coalition said.

The coalition described Governor Umo Eno as “a trailblazer, health-loving and result-oriented leader,” pledging to support his administration beyond 2027 while mobilizing grassroots backing for his ongoing and proposed projects, including the Ibom International Hospital and the Ibom Medical University.

Speaking also, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, who was represented by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, commended the Coalition of Health Sector Leaders for their contributions to the development of the health sector and the improvement of human lives.

He assured the Union’s readiness to accord the organisation the publicity it deserves, in support of the continued growth and advancement of the health sector in Akwa Ibom State

PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South, Clears Path for Makinde, Others

NEC affirms Damagum as Chairman, gears up for November convention in Ibadan

By Ibom Informer

Abuja – In a major political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, effectively opening the door for key southern politicians, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, to challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

The decision was ratified at the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday. The NEC also reaffirmed the existing zoning arrangement for National Working Committee (NWC) offices and confirmed Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman.

Reading the NEC communiqué, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed that the zoning decision followed the recommendation of the Zoning Committee chaired by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri. He also confirmed that preparations were in top gear for the party’s Elective National Convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“All PDP national offices currently in the North shall remain in the North, and likewise for those in the South,” the communiqué read in part. “Accordingly, having retained the office of the National Chairman in the Northern region, the 2027 presidential ticket has been zoned to the Southern region.”

The zoning decision could set the stage for a presidential run by Governor Makinde and possibly pave the way for a reconciliation with former party stalwarts such as 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

.

Obi Yet to Decide on 2027 Run

Amid speculation of Obi’s possible return to the PDP, the Obidient Movement’s national coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, said that the former Anambra governor would take time to assess the political landscape before announcing his next move.

“Obi has made it clear that his current priority is supporting his party’s candidates for the November 8 governorship election. He will study the situation and decide in due course,” Yunusa said.

APC Dismisses PDP Move

Reacting to the development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the PDP’s 2027 prospects. APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, insisted the opposition party is headed for defeat regardless of the region its candidate comes from.

Zoning Battles, Lingering Fractures

Zoning has long been a contentious issue in the PDP. In 2015, internal resistance from the North against then-President Goodluck Jonathan’s bid contributed to the party’s first national defeat. A similar scenario unfolded in 2023 when the G5 Governors, led by then-Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, rejected Atiku Abubakar’s northern candidacy, arguing the presidency should rotate to the South after President Buhari’s two terms.

Despite the party’s zoning committee, chaired by then-Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, throwing the ticket open, internal rebellion and unresolved grievances weakened the PDP’s cohesion, ultimately hurting its electoral chances.

The fallout also led to notable defections, including those of former Senate President David Mark and ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, who left for the African Democratic Congress.

Damagum Confirmed as Chairman

In a bid to stabilise its leadership, the PDP NEC on Monday confirmed Umar Damagum as substantive National Chairman. Ologunagba said the move was to recognise Damagum’s role in maintaining party unity ahead of the 2025 convention.

PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the party was making “strong efforts” to rebuild public trust and ensure internal disputes are resolved ahead of the next electoral cycle.

BoT, Wike Back Zoning Shift

The Board of Trustees, represented by Senator Ahmed Makarfi on behalf of Chairman Adolphus Wabara, called for unity, sacrifice, and reconciliation to position the PDP as a viable alternative in 2027.

“The hopes of millions of Nigerians rest on our ability to build, reconcile and position this party. Reclaiming victory in 2027 will require more than rhetoric—it will demand sacrifice,” Wabara said.

In a related development, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said he felt vindicated by the NEC’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South and the chairmanship to the North—an arrangement he advocated for during the 2022 crisis.

Ahead of the convention, party elders including Professor Jerry Gana and Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi have expressed support for a return of Peter Obi to the PDP fold, signalling potential alliances that could shape the 2027 race.

Finidi Vows Rivers United Won’t Repeat Past Mistakes

by Editor August 26, 2025

…Targets 2025/26 NPFL title after Remo Stars heartbreak

By Ibom Informer

Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has expressed confidence that his team will not repeat the errors that cost them the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title last season, as they begin their push for the 2025/26 crown.

The Pride of Rivers began their new campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to reigning champions Remo Stars at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena last Friday — a result that extended their strong head-to-head record against the Sky Blue Stars. Rivers United have now gone unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 encounters against Remo, winning seven and losing just once.

Speaking ahead of the match, Finidi reflected on their near-miss last term, where they finished second, seven points adrift of Remo Stars. He insists the team has learned from those lapses.

“We know what’s at stake, we know where we slipped last season. I don’t think we will make that mistake this season,” Finidi said.

“We will fight for every point. That’s our focus this season. So, pressure? I don’t think so. But you know how the league is — we just pray for a good start. A good start can propel the team to greater things.”

The former Super Eagles head coach, who took charge of Rivers United last season, believes the squad has what it takes to go all the way this time.

“There is no pressure on my side, but of course the club may be watching results closely. With what we’ve seen from the players, I believe things will work out well,” he added.

Rivers United ended last season with 64 points, a respectable tally but not enough to dethrone a consistent Remo Stars side. With renewed focus and lessons learned, Finidi’s men will hope to go one better in the new campaign and reclaim the title they last won in 2022.

ADC Candidate Challenges Anambra Senatorial By-Election Results

by Editor August 20, 2025
written by Editor

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the Anambra South Senatorial by-election, Donald Amamgbo, has rejected the results of the poll conducted on Saturday, August 16, alleging sabotage and widespread irregularities.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Tuesday, Amamgbo described the exercise as “a carefully orchestrated charade designed to obfuscate, suffocate and decimate the people’s voice and choice, ultimately undermining the credibility of the process.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the election with 90,408 votes. Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 19,847 votes, while Amamgbo of the ADC trailed with 2,889 votes.

Amamgbo accused INEC of deliberately undermining his party by withholding accreditation tags for ADC’s ward and local government collation agents on the eve of the election, a move he said crippled the party’s ability to monitor and defend its votes.

“This is not about me,” he said. “It is about securing the future of our democracy and restoring faith in the ballot. Anambra South deserves better. Nigeria deserves better. And until we achieve that, I will not stop speaking.”

The ADC candidate maintained that the poll failed to reflect the will of the electorate and called for a comprehensive review of the process.

Indiana Woman Arrested For Allegedly Plotting To Kidnap And Assassinate Trump

by Editor August 20, 2025
written by Editor

Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, after traveling to Washington, D.C., where authorities say she intended to “kidnap and assassinate” President Donald Trump.

A statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia on August 18 revealed that Jones had posted violent threats on Facebook and Instagram. In one message, she wrote: “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disembowelling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.” She also referenced an “arrest and removal ceremony” targeting Trump.

The U.S. Secret Service opened an investigation after linking the social media activity to Jones. During a recorded interview on August 15, she admitted to making the threats and allegedly said she would attempt to kill Trump “if given the opportunity,” citing anger over lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she later retracted her statements, claiming she no longer intended to harm him.

Jones now faces federal charges of threatening the President’s life and transmitting interstate threats to kidnap or injure, each carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized, “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and will be prosecuted swiftly and firmly.”

Court filings also noted Jones’s struggles with mental illness, which she had acknowledged in her online posts. As of now, no attorney has been publicly listed as representing her.
