Nigerian gospel singer and banker, Toyin Alo, has stressed that gospel music should not be reduced to mere entertainment, but regarded as a ministry and a spiritual tool for winning souls.
According to her, her music is rooted in faith, purpose, and the desire to inspire people to hold firmly to God, rather than a pursuit of fame or material wealth.
“Gospel music is not just for entertainment; it is a tool to draw souls to Christ,” she said in a statement on Saturday.
Introducing herself, Alo described her mission as deeply spiritual: “I am a Christian, a lover of Christ, a gospel singer, a dutiful wife, a mother, and a proud girl-child with zero tolerance for barbaric practices. My mission is to win souls for Him.”
She added that while she acknowledges cultural values, her faith remains paramount. “According to the Bible, a believer must never subscribe to Mammon. My faith in Him stands tall,” she declared.
Balancing her banking career, family responsibilities, and music ministry, Alo said her journey has been sustained by God’s grace. “God is my Alpha and Omega. He has been good to me, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper. My entire life has been about Christ,” she affirmed.
Alo, who debuted with the album Esteban Praise, has gone on to release several projects, including Alagbara, Halleluyah, Oba ni Jesu (featuring Kenny Kore), and most recently, Praise Him. Her latest single, Ogo Ogo, is also enjoying wide acceptance as she prepares for a new album, which she promises will be filled with “powerful gospel lyrics and uplifting messages.”
